There isn't much to cheer about now, either. We're rebuilding the team --- again. But not the stadium. We just rename the stadium. Living away from the Bay Area as I now do has taught me that the Faithful are everywhere, at least everywhere I've been. Sometimes it's a challenge to find the game on tv, but once you do, the place is full of people rooting for the 49ers...or at least rooting against Dallas. Pick up this year's schedule. Go 9ers!
When I was a little girl, I listened to the NY Rangers on the radio late at night. I'd never seen a hockey game, but I loved the rhythm of the game, and the French names of the players. My favorite team was the Toronto Make Believes, and I hoped to stand one day in Make Believe Garden. It was a pretty big disappointment when I saw my first (televised) game, and finally understood the name of the team. In Chicago, I attended a few Blackhawks games. These people are hockey fans, or at least they were in the early 70's. It's different in San Jose; they haven't quite gotten over being polite. Of course, the Sharks fans are fueled by nachos and chardonay, not by Polish and beer. Eric's got some interesting observations about sports, too. Be sure to check out his sports page. |
