My Son

Quick, bright, handsome and kindhearted. He is about to start his second year of junior college, hopefully prior to transferring to SF State to major in political science.

When he was 5 he said he wanted to own a hotel with a swimming pool when he grew up. I said to save the penthouse for me.

He's my son and heir, which is what my father called me, and he makes me very proud.

My Father

My father was a difficult man; the life of a family party yet hostile to strangers. I think about my father more often now than I did while he was alive. I remember how he loved me and wanted to share more of me than I was ever able to give.

I miss him.

My Mother

My mother negotiated my recuperation from polio and managed a household full of males. She found solace in a God who encouraged her to travel and not worry about cholesterol.

Had she been born 20 years later she would have become a senior executive in a major corporation. She now contents herself with bible study and travel.

My Brothers

I have three brothers: Andrew who is 2 1/2 years younger and William and Matthew who are 10 and 12 years younger than me. Andrew has not spoken to me for many years, but even when he did it was mostly to scream. He has issues, apparently, and the money to spend on lawyers to litigate them. Matthew asked that he be removed from this page.

Which leaves William, who professes life to be just rock and roll though he is the son that my father worried most about; probably because he recognized so much of himself. He is father to four daughters and a son...
